Invitation Letter

If your guest is coming to Germany from a country requiring a visa, a letter of invitation in English is usually required. This should be addressed as follows: "To whom it may concern" and contain the following minimum information:

In the subject line: Confirmation of a research stay or confirmation of supervision for the doctoral project or similar.

• Name and date and place of birth of the invited person
• Reason/purpose of the stay
• Period of the stay
• Name of Faculty and supervisor
• Type of funding (scholarship, employment contract, self-financed)
• If already known, the address of the flat that your guest will move into in Bielefeld should also be given.

The letter should bear the official letterhead of Bielefeld University.
